Mozley Park

Historic Mozley Park, located in West Atlanta, is known for its rich history, charming homes, vibrant community, and proximity to the Atlanta BeltLine. As one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods and a significant area during the Civil Rights era, it is a neighborhood with both historical and cultural significance. Today, it appeals to those looking for a mix of urban living, historic charm, and access to green spaces.

A Bit of History

Mozley Park was established in the early 20th century as one of Atlanta’s first planned residential neighborhoods. Named after Dr. Hiram Mozley, who donated land for its development, it became a vibrant community with beautiful Craftsman bungalows and Tudor-style homes. By the mid-1900s, Mozley Park emerged as a thriving neighborhood for Black professionals during segregation, as racial barriers shaped much of Atlanta’s residential landscape. In 1922, the city established Mozley Park, one of Atlanta’s earliest public parks, which became a central gathering place for residents. The neighborhood played an important role during the Civil Rights Movement, with its proximity to the historically Black colleges and universities of the Atlanta University Center, including Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University. Today, Mozley Park is part of Atlanta’s historic districts and is recognized for its architectural beauty and historical significance.
