A Bit of History
Buckhead’s origins date back to the 1830s, starting as a rural community. Its name comes from a story that involves a local hunter mounting a large deer head (or buck’s head) on a post, marking the area. The neighborhood began to transform in the 20th century, with wealthy Atlantans building grand estates amidst the rolling hills and forests. By the mid-20th century, Buckhead had established itself as an upscale residential and commercial area.
